Our Values
Integrity
Integrity and ethical conduct are at the core of our interactions with our clients, within our team, and in our wider community. We know that a big part of feeling secure with your counsellor is your ability to trust that they are being honest, authentic, and ethical in their work. You can trust that we are acting in alignment with the code of ethics & standards of practice of our profession and, perhaps more importantly, our moral compass. Our commitment to you is that we do what we say, we say what we do, and we have your best interests at heart when we do it.
Ubuntu
A philosophical concept derived from the South African isiZulu language meaning, I am because you are, acknowledging our shared humanity. We exist alongside, and because of those around us.
We understand that the mutual exchange of empathy, compassion, trust, collaboration, and respect for the dignity of others is critical to creating a society that feels safe and connected. In advancing the care and humanity of our clients, our team, and our community, we advance our own – promoting mutually beneficial relationships in which we all win.
Safety
Emotional safety is a core need for all people, the presence or absence of which has critical implications for every interaction and decision we make. Appreciating that a culture of safety starts at home, we are intentional about creating and maintaining safety within our team. We believe that counsellors who feel safe and regulated are better able to foster that emotional safety for their clients. For us, creating safety also means being trauma informed – we honour our clients’ experiences, defenses, boundaries, and goals, meeting them with acceptance, compassion, and respect
Authenticity
Our therapists strive to show up as their genuine, authentic selves every day and we hope this makes it easier for our clients to be their real selves in session, and in their daily lives. Authenticity means that how we show up in our work and for our clients is consistent, reliable, relatable, and predictable - because we are just being ourselves. Having peace of mind about who their therapist is fosters a sense of safety, allowing clients the freedom to be vulnerable and to heal.
Holism
We see our clients for the whole people they are - with minds, bodies, hearts and hurts, and within the context of their past, present, and future. In order to survive our world, many of us learned to rely on our minds to keep us safe, neglecting both the needs and the wisdom of our bodies and emotions. We believe in the importance of integrating experiences and the parts of self into a cohesive, connected, whole so you have access to all the information your mind, heart, and body hold.
